The story opens perspectives on the architecture of Edvard Ravnikar and his collaborators in the construction of Cankarjev dom. The authors included numerous quotations and thoughts by architects, as well as by politicians and cultural figures connected to the building of Cankarjev dom. The narrative is interwoven with poetry and dramatic writing by selected artists. A subtle and meaningfully multi layered sound walk, situated in the present, outlines the period of construction and the building’s architecture itself, enabling a deeper understanding of the historical and cultural context.
The sound story also touches on Ravnikar’s broader oeuvre, from the planning of Republic Square as a demanding and long term spatial intervention to his pedagogical work at the School of Architecture in Ljubljana. In his understanding of urban space, Ravnikar involved many architects and students who, in dialogue with politics and the profession, laid the foundations for high quality spatial design in a modernist Mediterranean spirit.
